I once had a kitten abandoned under the deck, too frightened to come out despite her constant meowing. I tried coaxing her, but she refused to budge. Meanwhile, my dog was at the door, eagerly waiting to be let out to relieve himself. I decided to come back for the kitten after tending to my dog, figuring she just needed more time.
But to my surprise, as soon as my big dog walked out, the timid kitten came rushing out from her hiding spot. Instead of fleeing, she made a beeline straight for my dog, almost as if she had decided he was her mother. In that instant, I found myself with a new kitten, bonded not to me, but to my dog. The kitten had clearly found comfort in the one creature she couldn’t deny her love for.
