All shelter dogs dream of the day they find a family to love them, and for Twinkle, a senior Chihuahua, that dream turned into heartbreak.
Rescued from the Streets
In June 2022, Twinkle was found on the streets of Miami, Florida, and brought to True and Faithful Pet Rescue Mission, which specializes in rescuing senior dogs from high-euthanasia shelters.
Twinkle arrived at the shelter underweight, suffering from dental issues and a severe skin infection. Most of her fur was gone, and she needed surgery to remove mammary tumors. Thankfully, she recovered fully, gained weight, and looked forward to a fresh start.
By September 2022, Twinkle was adopted. Her new family seemed perfect, and everyone thought she would finally receive the love she longed for.
Heartbreaking Surrender
However, just four months later, Twinkle’s family surrendered her back to the rescue. Their reason? Twinkle wanted to sleep in their bed. They already had other senior Chihuahuas and didn’t allow any of them in the bed either.
When Twinkle was handed over the shelter fence, she watched her family walk away, confused and heartbroken.
“Twinkle was beyond devastated and confused,” recalled Madison Mulvihill, the rescue’s social media coordinator. “She looked at you with such confusion on her face and pain in her heart.”
Twinkle, a sweet and well-behaved dog, just wanted love and cuddles—something her family couldn’t provide.
Finding True Love
The rescue staff, heartbroken by Twinkle’s situation, made a TikTok video about her story. The response was overwhelming, and adoption requests flooded in.
Her perfect family, hailing from South Carolina, drove all the way to adopt her. Twinkle now has six furry siblings, a king-size bed, and all the love she deserves. Her new family allows her to sleep in bed with them as much as she likes.
At last, Twinkle found a family that understands her need for love and affection. After all her hardships, she now experiences the joy of true love.
