It’s heartbreaking to think that dogs ever have to experience the pain of a broken heart. Stanford, a Pit Bull mix, knew that pain all too well when his owners abandoned him in a park, leaving him behind forever.
Fortunately, a compassionate family found Stanford and contacted the Rockdale County Animal Shelter in Georgia, where he was taken in. The family quickly fell in love with the gentle pup and returned to the shelter to fill out an adoption application. They visited Stanford in his kennel, kissed him goodbye, and promised to take him home soon, filling his heart with hope.
But things didn’t go as planned.
Stanford’s Heart is Broken Again
When Stanford saw the family approaching his kennel, he eagerly stood on his hind legs and pushed his paws through the bars, looking at them with pleading eyes, desperate for them to take him home. Sadly, the family had come to say goodbye. Due to their rental property’s no-pet policy, they had no choice but to give up on adopting Stanford.
“They had to see Stanford one last time and explain why they couldn’t bring him home. Their last goodbye was painful…” Humans and Animals United shared in a Facebook post.
Stanford’s eyes filled with tears as he watched the family walk away, his heart breaking for the second time. He waited at the shelter, hoping they would come back for him.
Placed on the Euthanasia List
tragically, Stanford’s name was added to the euthanasia list. Heartbroken, the sorrowful pup withdrew to the corner of his kennel, turning his face to the wall as if he had given up on himself.
But fate had another plan for Stanford. The rescuers at Humans and Animals United, an animal rescue organization based in Florida, learned about his situation and couldn’t stand to see him suffer. Determined to save him, they worked tirelessly to find him a foster home.
A New Beginning
The rescue team rushed to the Rockdale Animal Shelter to pick up Stanford, and for the first time in a long while, hope filled his heart. As he stepped outside the shelter, his eyes sparkled with joy, and his tail wagged with excitement. Stanford knew he was free.
The shelter staff were moved to tears, seeing the happiness on Stanford’s face. “Our boy left the shelter today in the happiest of spirits! He knew this was the start of his new life!” Humans and Animals United wrote.
After a thorough medical checkup, Stanford was taken to his foster home, where he received the love and care he had been longing for. His foster family showed him kindness, and for the first time, Stanford felt his love reciprocated.
Now, though he enjoys his time with his fosters, Stanford dreams of finding a permanent home where he can shower his forever family with love. After all the heartbreak he has endured, he deserves nothing less than a life filled with happiness and unconditional love.
