On his special day, Rocky Road, a resilient Pit Bull, received the greatest gift of all—a second chance at life. His journey began on February 2, 2012,
when Animal Control responded to a distress call in the 600 block of Andover Road in Linthicum. A concerned citizen reported an injured Pit Bull, and upon arrival, the Animal Control Officer found Rocky Road in severe pain, struggling to move but still seeking affection.
A Heart-Wrenching Start
Back at the shelter, Rocky’s condition was quickly assessed. The extent of his injuries suggested that he had likely been used as a “bait dog,” enduring brutal attacks to train other dogs for fighting. Despite the tremendous pain he was in, Rocky’s spirit remained unbroken. His gentle nature and longing for affection captivated everyone who met him.
A Lifeline of Hope
Recognizing the urgency of his situation, Animal Control reached out to Waugh Chapel Animal Hospital. In a truly heartwarming gesture, the hospital offered to treat Rocky pro bono. On February 3, 2012, Rocky underwent surgery to address his severe injuries. The operation was a success, and Rocky’s condition began to stabilize, marking the start of his long and challenging road to recovery.
A Bright Future Ahead
Rocky’s story didn’t end with surgery. Tara’s House, a private non-profit rescue group, stepped in with a promise to find him a loving forever home once he was medically ready. The devoted staff at Waugh Chapel Animal Hospital continued to provide Rocky with the care and support he needed as he healed, ensuring that he had every opportunity to thrive.
