Life for stray animals can be incredibly challenging. Without a home or shelter, they must find their own food and water, facing all weather conditions directly.
We’ve heard many stories of pets suffering in harsh weather, and of kind-hearted businesses offering warmth. However, extreme heat is just as dangerous for dogs, and on one particularly hot day, a shop made the kind decision to let a dog inside to cool off.
In Mexico, on a day when temperatures reached 104 degrees, a stray dog visited a local market, a place he had frequented for several days.
“He’s been around here for the past few days,” a store employee told The Dodo. “We believe his owner abandoned him. He came to us seeking help.”
“We can only provide him with food, water, and a few toys from the store, paid for out of our own pockets.”
But on that sweltering day, they decided to do more:
They invited the dog inside to cool off.
The dog seemed to deeply appreciate the break from the intense heat: he was so relieved that he simply lay down on the cool floor to rest.
“We let him in because the weather outside is unbearable,” said the cashier. “We feel awful for him, but he seems content here in the store.”
The kindness of the staff even inspired a customer named Adolfo Pazzi Ahumada, who was there to buy milk, to purchase a treat for the dog.
“I was heartbroken by what the dog had endured,” Adolfo shared with The Dodo. “But now he’s receiving the care he deserves.”
Thank you to this store for opening its doors to this dog! This simple act of kindness undoubtedly meant the world to him.
