Seeking refuge from the harsh realities of street life, a tiny brown pup found what she thought was a safe hiding spot inside a drain pipe by the side of a road.
The little pup, later named Charlie, hoped that someone would notice her from this uncomfortable shelter and come to her rescue.
Unfortunately, the cars sped by too fast for anyone to spot her small, vulnerable figure.
As time passed, Charlie felt a wave of sadness, not knowing that her luck was about to change.
The Rescue Mission
One day, as Aubrey V Lynn bid farewell to her partner heading to the gym, she had no idea her workday would be interrupted by the sweetest surprise.
“I was at home working, and my partner was headed to the gym, leaving our neighborhood when he saw her. He kept driving past but couldn’t shake the thought of her, so he turned around and sent me a message,” Aubrey recounted.
Determined not to let this little pup spend another night on the streets, Aubrey knew they had to act.
However, rescuing Charlie was no easy task. The drain pipe was right next to a busy road, and Aubrey and her partner were worried that if they startled Charlie, she might run into traffic.
A Careful Approach
The couple felt anxious as Charlie occasionally peeked out of the pipe but wouldn’t let them get close enough to catch her.
They decided to try a different approach. Heading to a local pet store, they bought some tasty dog food, hoping to lure Charlie out of her hiding spot.
They set the bait and waited patiently. But even after 24 hours, the frightened puppy still wasn’t ready to emerge.
“We sat there for hours trying to grab her. She wouldn’t come out, so we went to leave, getting back on our scooter, and she ran right up to us,” Aubrey shared.
Seizing the moment, Aubrey gently scooped up the pup, not wanting to risk her running away again. It was as if Charlie immediately sensed the love Aubrey had for her, finally allowing herself to relax.
“She calmed immediately and didn’t try to get away,” Aubrey said.
A New Beginning
Aubrey and her partner took the adorable pup home with them.
Although they hadn’t initially planned on getting a dog, spending time with Charlie quickly changed their minds. Soon, they couldn’t imagine life without her.
“We never talked about it while trying to rescue her because our focus was just getting her to safety, but I think both of us knew in that moment that she was a part of our family now,” Aubrey reflected.
Charlie adapted to her new home surprisingly well. “We let her sleep and eat in safety for a while, and the first time we went to sit with her, she was timid but warmed up so quickly. You could tell she just wanted to be loved—it was really sweet,” Aubrey recalled.
Now, as they watch Charlie play in their backyard, Aubrey and her partner can’t help but marvel at how much this sweet puppy has enriched their lives.
Good girl, Charlie!
