In recent months, a group of rescue workers discovered a pig in a severely neglected state. After being abandoned, the pig was found skeletal and barely able to move, seeking warmth under a pile of leaves.
But now, this resilient pig has finally found a happy ending.
In November, Rove, an animal rescue organization based in Minnesota, reported on a rescued pig. The 8-year-old pig was found in Hudson, Wisconsin, a place known for cases of animal cruelty.
According to the report, the pig, now named Brutus, was severely malnourished, with only a few newspaper sheets as bedding. He was also almost blind.
It was clear that Brutus had been infected with various diseases. The rescue team wrote, “His modified collar suggests that someone intentionally left him in this condition.”
Authorities informed the rescue team that Brutus had likely been abandoned twice before. He had been in a similar state of neglect previously and was briefly cared for, only for the owner to reclaim him, claiming the pig had been lost.
Rove took Brutus in and placed him in a care facility where he could receive the attention and recovery he needed. Despite everything he had been through, Brutus remained remarkably resilient.
“The resilience of animals like Brutus continues to amaze us,” the rescue team wrote, noting that Brutus was “slowly regaining his strength” and thriving in his new environment.
Brutus soon gained 6 kilograms, and his loving nature became evident. He was described as a “true friend to the other animals” at the shelter, his gentle spirit shining through.
“Brutus is an Oshie at heart, and with the right environment, he’s truly amazing—just as he deserves,” the team added.
Once he regained his energy and healed from his past traumas, Brutus was put up for adoption. He soon caught the attention of the perfect adopter.
A man named Tony came across Brutus’s adoption page and “just melted at the sight of his eyes.”
Tony shared that he had been searching for a new pet since his previous one passed away from cancer in 2021. When he saw Brutus, he knew it was meant to be.
“My last pig, Stella Blue, was diagnosed with progressive retinal atrophy and went completely blind in her final years,” Tony explained. “Seeing that Brutus also had vision issues felt like a sign.”
Tony adopted Brutus and says he’s “the sweetest and most affectionate pig” he’s ever met. Everyone at the shelter is thrilled that Brutus has found the perfect, loving home.
While it’s heartbreaking that someone once mistreated such a wonderful animal, we’re so happy that Brutus has finally found a home full of endless love.
