If there’s one thing I’ve never really given much thought to, it’s the significance toys hold for our dogs.
My own dog has had plenty of toys throughout his life, but I never really considered why they seem to love them so much.
As I reflect on it now, I realize that dogs often use toys for comfort. When they’re feeling down, they might cling to their toys to ease their stress, which is both heartwarming and a little heartbreaking.
For one frightened stray dog, her rescuers provided toys in hopes of calming her nerves. While the toys did bring her some comfort, she still needed a bit more help to fully come out of her shell.
She Loves Her Toys
When a group of homeowners in California noticed a stray dog wandering around their neighborhood, they knew they had to help her.
She was skinny and malnourished, so they tried offering her food, but she was too scared to approach them.
They started leaving food outside, and she would eat it when no one was around. Over time, she gained some much-needed weight, which made everyone happy to see her healthier.
But despite the care from so many of the homeowners, the dog remained wary of human interaction.
To help her feel more at ease, the neighbors brought her some toys, which she absolutely adored. Anytime they saw her, she was carrying one of the toys with her.
It was a heartwarming sight. However, the residents realized that she needed a permanent home and couldn’t keep living on the streets.
Since she wasn’t willing to accept help directly from them, they decided to call in a professional.

When Suzette arrived at the neighborhood, she spotted the dog with a toy in her mouth, which was both sweet and sad.
She knew she had to help, so she set up a humane trap with food inside, hoping to gain the dog’s trust.
The plan worked. In no time, the dog was safely secured.
The neighbors gathered to say their goodbyes to the sweet dog they had come to care for so much.
They named her Betty Boop, and she seemed happy when she realized she was heading to a new and better life.
Suzette and the neighbors made sure to pack all of Betty’s toys for her trip to the shelter, so she could always have them by her side.
