Although shelter workers encounter many dogs during their work, there’s always one that stands out as extra special.
Matilda, a sweet puppy, found her way to the Douglas County Animal Shelter. From the start, the staff noticed something different about Matilda—she was always cheerful and excited. She was adopted almost immediately after arriving at the shelter, her charm undeniable.
What surprised the shelter staff even more was the tough start Matilda had faced in life.
When the shelter found her, the two-month-old puppy was dealing with skin irritation and worms. She had been a stray on the streets of Georgia since birth.
Yet, despite these challenges, Matilda never lost her joyful spirit, constantly wagging her tail.
A volunteer named Santina Sanders shared with The Dodo that Matilda was incredibly affectionate, calling her kisses “the most amazing” and describing her as truly special.
Peebles and More Animal Rescue, another group, also fell in love with Matilda, drawn to her gentle and loving nature. Sanders wasn’t alone in noticing the puppy’s affectionate demeanor.
Teresa Bulls Ciofalo, one of the rescue directors, formed a bond with the playful Matilda and decided to rescue her from the shelter, placing her in a foster home.
When Matilda’s new foster dad arrived to pick her up, her joy was impossible to miss—she kept wagging her tail the entire hour-and-a-half car ride home.
She even wags her tail so enthusiastically that it makes her walk a bit off balance.
Matilda is a delightful pup, though there’s one thing she doesn’t like—wearing collars. When her foster dad, Rich, tried putting a collar on her, she stopped wagging, showing her disapproval.
Aside from that, Matilda is thrilled with everything in her new home.
She enjoys spending time with her foster siblings, playing with toys, and helping her human brother with his schoolwork. She often stays close to him as he completes his tasks.
