We understand that the lifespan of pets like dogs and cats isn’t very long. So what should we do when a beloved companion is nearing the end of its journey?
The story of a 16-year-old dog and Zack Schou, co-founder of Marley’s Mutts and the Pawsitive Change initiative, is incredibly moving.

Zack’s story began when he visited a dog shelter in Tehachapi and met an old dog named Henry. At 16 years old, Henry was already in his twilight years. He lived in the shelter, facing tough conditions, with a graying coat, and slower movements. Sadly, this is why no one had adopted Henry.
Seeing this, Zack was deeply moved. He couldn’t bear to see the [po.or] dog live out his last days in the shelter, so he decided to adopt Henry, care for him, and help find him a loving home.
In March 2021, Zack brought Henry out of the shelter and took him straight to a vet. Henry’s condition wasn’t great; he was old, weak, and had [te.stic.ular ca.nc.er]. A su.rg.ery was quickly scheduled. Yet, to everyone’s surprise, Henry showed incredible resilience in [fi.ght.ing] the [di.sea.se].
Even though he was frail, Henry found the strength to walk around the garden and lend a helping paw. Zack was amazed at Henry’s spirit, as he seemed to grow stronger each day.
Despite this, Zack continued his search for a new home for Henry, wanting him to be loved in a family environment.

Henry’s story quickly spread, and a kind woman who heard about him reached out to Zack and took Henry into her care.
Henry bonded with his new mom almost instantly, always appearing joyful and full of life. She adored Henry and often shared sweet pictures of him with others.
Adopting older dogs is truly special. They are so loving and eternally grateful…🙏💕
Thanks to kind souls like Zack, Henry found a happy ending. May all [po.or] dogs find their
own caring human.
