When a dog named Monster fell off a shrimp boat, her owner feared she was lost forever. However, to his amazement, days later, the brave dog swam six miles to shore and returned home safely.
Keith “Kiwi” Soofs, a shrimp boat captain from San Leon, Texas, adored his dog Monster, who had been his loyal companion on daily water trips since she was a puppy. But on one recent outing, tragedy struck when Monster went overboard. Despite the calm weather and her years of experience on the boat, Monster disappeared without a trace.
Keith searched frantically, fearing the worst. “I lost the only thing in this world that I really loved,” Keith wrote. “I am completely heartbroken.” Desperate, he shared the story on social media, hoping for a miracle, and received an outpouring of support and prayers from people around the world.
Five days later, Keith received incredible news: Monster was alive! She had survived by swimming an astounding five to six miles across Galveston Bay to reach shore.
Monster was found safely on land, and Keith was in disbelief when he learned what she had endured. “I said to myself, ‘Man, she couldn’t have done this swim,’” Keith told FOX 26. “This dog can’t swim that far.”
The reunion between Keith and Monster was emotional after their days apart. “I couldn’t even talk because I was crying so hard,” Keith said. “She was kissing me everywhere.”
Now safely home, Monster seems unfazed by her ordeal. While Keith is still recovering from the emotional rollercoaster, Monster acts as though nothing happened. “She’s sleeping like a baby,” Keith posted on Facebook, alongside a photo of his dog resting. “I think she did it on purpose… just to get on TV.”
Keith, however, couldn’t be happier to have his companion back and plans to take extra precautions in the future by equipping Monster with a tracking device and life jacket during boat trips to prevent a repeat incident.
This remarkable story of survival and the unbreakable bond between Monster and Keith is a reminder of the incredible resilience of animals and the deep connections we share with them.
