In a heart-wrenching sight, a German Shepherd was discovered wandering the streets of Detroit, clutching her beloved stuffed animal. Thankfully, this beautiful dog has now been rescued and is safe.
Locals first noticed the dog, whom they affectionately named “Nicholas,” despite her being female. It was believed that she became homeless after her owners passed away. Her story quickly gained attention, and several local organizations, including It Is Pawzable Dog Training, South Lyon Murphy Lost Animal Recovery, Sugar Mutts Dog Grooming, and Almost Home Animal Rescue, joined forces to rescue her.
Katrina Weaver, owner of It Is Pawzable, praised the collaborative effort, saying, “It’s really amazing how everyone comes together as a team.” Their dedication paid off when, on May 3rd, Home No Kill Rescue successfully captured the dog. Upon realizing the dog’s gender, they renamed her “Nicky.”
From that point on, only positive things awaited Nicky. The rescue organization announced on Facebook, “Thank you for all the support. It’s great to know that Nicky will finally have a home!”
However, Nicky’s journey isn’t over yet. She was diagnosed with heartworm and will require four weeks of treatment. Despite this, she is handling her medications well and has adjusted to walking on a leash. Once she fully recovers, the search for her perfect forever home will begin.
For now, Nicky remains in the care of her rescuers, with her cherished stuffed animal by her side. We are overjoyed that Nicky is safe and secure, and we hope she makes a full recovery soon and finds a loving home where she can continue to thrive!
