It’s heartbreaking to be reminded of the cruelty some dog owners show toward their loyal pups. Instead of giving them the love and care they deserve, these animals are abandoned without a second thought.
Today’s story is about Malea, a sweet dog who faced such a betrayal. She was cruelly left in a hot dumpster, the lid closed tight, with no regard for her well-being. All she could do was wait, hoping that kind-hearted humans would come to her rescue and give her the love she so desperately needed.
Rescuers Rush to Save the Sweet Pittie
A compassionate man witnessed the terrible scene in a Missouri neighborhood and immediately contacted Stray Rescue of St. Louis for help.
Donna Lochmann, the chief life-saving officer, along with the rescue team, quickly arrived at the scene. As they opened the dumpster lid, they were greeted by the most endearing pair of eyes staring back at them.
The sweet dog, later named Malea, wagged her tail and smiled, relieved that someone had finally come for her. Despite the harsh conditions, she remained hopeful and grateful. The rescuers, though relieved that Malea was alright, were deeply saddened by the cruelty she had endured.
“We tried to hold back tears, but this really choked us up. It was so hot inside; we’re thankful she didn’t pass out,” Stray Rescue of St. Louis shared on their Facebook page. They shuddered to think of what might have happened if Malea had remained in that dumpster any longer.
Malea Gets Showered With Love During Her Freedom Ride
Lochmann climbed into the dumpster and gently stroked Malea before placing a leash around her neck and lifting her out. The rescuers took the beautiful pup to their car, where Malea expressed her gratitude by showering them with kisses. Lochmann comforted her, reassuring her that her life mattered.
“You’re a beautiful girl. You do not belong in the dumpster. You are not trash. You are NOT trash. No. You’re a beautiful girl. Your life matters. Yes, it does.”
As Malea rested her head on her rescuer’s shoulder, feeling safe for the first time in a long while, the team received another urgent call—two puppies had been abandoned in a downtown parking lot.
Searching for a Loving Home
The rescuers quickly made their way to the address and found the two puppies, who were overjoyed to be rescued. After picking them up, they all headed to the shelter.
With the shelter full, the puppies were placed in foster care, while Malea joined the shelter’s Rovernight program, which allows dogs to stay in a loving home for a few days. “She’s in a loving home being spoiled! She gets along great with other dogs and is gentle with little kids, too,” said Natalie Thomson, the rescue’s Director of Marketing.
Now, all three pups are being showered with love and affection while they wait to find their forever homes. We’re confident that these sweet dogs will soon find the loving families they deserve.
